World Manufacturing Convention (WMC) is initiated by the People's Government of Anhui Province and the Global Alliance of SMEs (GASME), and approved by the State Council. It has grown into a major manufacturing event with significant international influence and a key platform for Anhui's opening-up and cooperation.

The first convention was held in Hefei in 2018. In 2019, President Xi Jinping sent a letter of congratulation to the second convention that defined the prominent position of WMC. Held annually, it has successfully hosted nine editions.

The World Manufacturing Convention is a premier platform for high-level dialogue, achievement showcases, and project signings in the global manufacturing sector. Based in Hefei and open to the world, it showcases the latest developments of world manufacturing and advances mutually beneficial development of global cooperation.

Each edition designates a Guest Country of Honor (the United Kingdom, the Republic of Korea, France, and Slovakia, among others, have held this role). The Convention brings together global public leaders, heads of international organizations, senior executives from Fortune Global 500 companies and multinational corporations, and academic leaders, and participants from over 100 countries and regions.

A large number of major projects in new energy, semiconductors, and high-end equipment have been landed in Anhui, driving the collaborative upgrading of manufacturing across the Yangtze River Delta and beyond.
