2024 World Manufacturing Convention Held in Hefei

From September 20^th to 23^rd, the 2024 World Manufacturing Convention was held grandly in Hefei.

The convention was jointly hosted by the National Manufacturing Power Construction Strategy, China Association of SMEs, Global Alliance of SMEs, and the People’s Government of Anhui Province.

The World Manufacturing Convention has been held for seven consecutive sessions so far. Themed “Intelligent Manufacturing for a Better Future”, the convention was divided into multiple activities including the Opening Ceremony and Keynote Speeches, Key Industrial Chain Supply and Demand Matchmaking, Major Project Signing, Authoritative Release and Presentation of Achievements.

Zhang Qingwei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, delivered an address and announced the opening of the convention. Carlos Magariños, Global Chairman of GASME, Liang Yanshun, Liang Yanshun, Secretary of the Anhui Provincial Party Committee, Xin Guobin, Deputy Minister of Industry and Information Technology, and Li Guoqiang, Vice Governor of Jilin Province, delivered speeches respectively. Bertrand Lortholary, the French Ambassador to China, sent a video address. Governor Wang Qingxian hosted the ceremony.

Chairman Zhang pointed out in his speech that manufacturing is the foundation of the real economy and the lifeline of the economy. The world should strengthen interaction and mutual assistance, jointly promote the digital transformation of the manufacturing industry, enhance mutual benefits and deepen high-level open cooperation and continuously write a new chapter of high-quality development of the manufacturing industry so as to promote the healthy development of economic globalization.

Chairman Magariños stated that Anhui has accurately grasped the new trend of global manufacturing development, and the speed of Anhui’s manufacturing development is remarkable. The new energy vehicle industry is developing rapidly, and the formation of the internationally competitive industrial clusters is accelerating. The current globalization process is facing significant challenges, and the purpose of this convention is to jointly promote reglobalization, so that the Fourth Industrial Revolution can bring new impetus to the development of all countries and help achieve the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. He hopes that the manufacturing industries of countries around the world can take the World Manufacturing Convention as an opportunity to jointly promote high-quality development of the global manufacturing industry and inject more impetus into the world economy.

During the Opening Ceremony, the “2024 Top 500 Chinese Manufacturing Enterprises” list and the Ten New Products of the 2024 World Manufacturing Convention were also released, and 20 major projects were signed.

Including the Opening Ceremony and Keynote Speeches, more than 20 major or special events were held during the convention, with around 1,000 important guests from home and abroad attended. Among them, foreign guests accounted for more than 50% for the first time and 178 political leaders and guests from 19 countries and regions including the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom also attended the convention, including representatives from 92 Fortune 500 companies and multinational corporations, making the openness of the convention even more prominent.

The exhibition area of approximately 20,000 square meters showcases major innovative achievements in the manufacturing industry, with cutting-edge technologies and new products such as humanoid robots, drones, and new energy intelligent connected vehicles appearing one after another. These achievements manifest the development of the manufacturing industry in a multi-level and multi-dimensional manner. Among them, the French Alstom straddle type monorail train, which is about 26 meters long and weighs about 30 tons, was the largest physical exhibit on site and could be experienced by visitors entering the train. According to statistics, the 2024 World Manufacturing Convention has facilitated 718 cooperation projects with a total investment of 369.2 billion yuan, an increase of 22% and 8% respectively year-on-year with 95% manufacturing projects. Through the window of the World Manufacturing Convention, we can see that the manufacturing industry is relying on innovation to gradually move towards high-end, intelligent, and green development. The global manufacturing industry is sharing more new opportunities through openness, inclusiveness, and mutual learning.
