The Second World Congress of Acupuncture-Moxibustion on Health Care & Preservation Held in Quzhou

The Second World Congress of Acupuncture-Moxibustion on Health Care &Preservation took place in Quzhou, China, from November 1st to 3rd, 2018.

The congress was co-hosted by the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies, China Association of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Global Alliance of SMEs, Quzhou Municipal People’s Government and Committee of Health Industry Development of China Institute of Strategy and Management.

The theme of the forum was “Acupuncture, Originated in China and Shared across the World”. The main sessions of the three-day event included the welcome banquet, the memorial ceremony in Honor of Yang Jizhou, the opening ceremony of the Congress, sub-forums of the acupuncture industry, the symposium on the Inheritance of Yang Jizhou Acupuncture Culture, cultural promotion activities of Yang Jizhou Acupuncture Culture, the Expo of TCM Health Care & Preservation Industry and the special culture exhibition.

The congress gathered more than 300 distinguished guests including leaders from relevant national and provincial government departments, World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies, China Association of Acupuncture-Moxibustion and research institutes, experts from the Acupuncture-Moxibustion communities at home and abroad as well as representatives from TCM enterprises. They included Xu Wenguang, Secretary of the Quzhou Municipal Party Committee, Wu Guosheng, Chairman of CPPCC Quzhou Municipal Committee, Ren Dequan, Former Deputy Director of National Medical Products Administration, Shen Xin, Director of the Department of European & Asian Affairs of Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Wu Zhendou, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine,Xu Weiwei, Director of Zhejiang Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Wu Jiangping, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Quzhou Municipal Committee and Secretary of Qujiang District Party Committee, Shi Xuemin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and TCM physician, Zhang Jin, Inheritor of the UN Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of Acupuncture and Moxibustion of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Liu Baoyan, Chairman of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies, Wang Zhenghua, Co-Chair of GASME and President of Spring Airlines, Frank Cao, Secretary-General of GASME and Global Affairs Adviser to Former German President Christian Wulff, Zhu Fujiang, President of Minsheng Pharmaceutical Group, Yu Zhuyun, Chair of the Board of Directors of Central Holding Group, Yu Jianwu, President of Sundy Corporation, Li Guangdou, well-known Brand Management Expert, Li Yongming, President of American TCM Society, Zheng Qiming, Member of the Executive Council of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies, registered Chinese medicine practitioner in the Philippines and President of the Acupuncturist Society, and Zhou Tao, well-known CCTV anchor.

During the congress, SGBan Ki-moon, Eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia, and his spouse, Ms. Yoo Soon-Taek visited Quzhou and the China (Qujiang) Chinese Medicine Acupuncture Innovation and Development Zone. SG Ban Ki-moon pointed out in his keynote speech that “Traditional Chinese medicine including acupuncture is an important cultural heritage not only of China but also of Korea. The fundamental philosophy of applying holistic and systematic theory to better understand symptoms and prevent illness has made and will make significant contributions to human health for centuries in China and beyond. Under the nourishment of the beautiful natural environment of Quzhou, the industrious people here created their own history with their own hands and shared their treasure with the outside world. Mr. Yang Jizhou is an outstanding representative. His ‘Acupuncture Dacheng’ is a great treasure of traditional Chinese medicine. It has saved a countless number of people, leaving a precious spiritual and material heritage for the people of the world. In January 2017, President Xi Jinping presented an acupuncture copper to the World Health Organization in Geneva. Acupuncture became a messenger to spread Chinese civilization.”

Mr. Xu Wenguang, Secretary of Quzhou Municipal Party Committee, met with SG Ban Ki-moon and his delegation, appreciating SG Ban Ki-moon’s great support for the promotion of the traditional Chinese Acupuncture. During the Quzhou visit, SG Ban Ki-moon and his spouse attended the Memorial Ceremony in Honor of Yang Jizhou, visited Yang Jizhou Hospital and experienced the acupuncture therapy in person.

Mr.Xu stated in his address at the Welcome Banquet that “small needlesare connected to the big health industry. Committed to developing the health industry led by the TCM Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Qujiang strives to become the sacred place for acupuncture and health care. To preserve and promote the acupuncture culture and develop the acupuncture industry is highly in tune with Quzhou’s positioning to become a beautiful garden city with green economy and sustainable industry.”

Mr. Liu Baoyan, Chairman of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies stressed in his speech that “the globalization of China’s acupuncture is the call of the times and we should shoulder the responsibility to innovate the way of spreading the TCM and acupuncture so as to establish a comprehensive spreading system that integrates medial care, teaching, research and cultural diffusion ofthe TCM and acupuncture.

At the congress, experts from the health care industries across Asia, Europe and the America gathered here in active response tothe Belt and Road initiative, and conducted in-depth discussions on the innovative development of TCM acupuncture surrounding the theme of “Acupuncture, Originated in China and Shared across the World”, with multiple consensus reached. Mr. Shi Xuemin, the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, read out theTraditional Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion for the World--the Quzhou Consensus for the Second World Congress of Acupuncture-Moxibustion on Health Care & Preservation 2018.

The highlight of the congress was the launching of the Global Initiative on Yang Jizhou Acupuncture and Moxibustion for Healthcare, aiming to pave the way for the global development of the traditional Chinese acupuncture. Depending on the Three Institutes of Yang Jizhou Acupuncture (Yang JizhouAcupuncture Hospital, Yangjizhou Acupuncture Institute, and Yangjizhou Acupuncture Research Academy), the Headquarters for the Global Chains on Yang Jizhou Acupuncture and Moxibustionwill be set up in Qujiang, with its operational headquarters located in Qianjiang New City in Hangzhou. It plans to open up more than 500 chain stores of Yang Jizhou Acupuncture and Moxibustion around the world, especially in countries along the Belt and Road, within five years.To facilitate the implementation of the initiative and the development of the China (Qujiang) Chinese Medicine Acupuncture Innovation and Development Zone, the Quzhou Municipal People’s Government and GASME, along with other relevant government organs, will jointly build a state-level International Communication Committee of TCM Acupuncture.

At the Opening Ceremony, a donation ceremony was held where Ms. Zhang Yihong, daughter of Professor Zhang Jin, Inheritor of the UN Intangible Cultural Heritage of Traditional Chinese MedicineAcupuncture, donated ancient classics on acupuncture, namely, Script on Acupuncture Practice and Acupoint Drawing of Human Body, to the Qujiang District. Meanwhile, donation ceremonies of antiques and ancient architecture were also held. During the congress, cultural relics of Xinglongwa Culture, Zhaobaogou Culture and Hongshan Culture with a history of more than 5000 to 8000 years were exhibited at Yang Jizhou Acupuncture Museum.

Yang Jizhou is a prominent acupuncturist in the Ming Dynasty born in Sanqu, Zhejiang Province. He traveled to Fujian, Jiangsu, Hebei, Henan and other provinces throughout his life and cured enormous patients. His work, The Great Compendium of Acupuncture, has been translated into 7 languages and 79 versions, circulating to more than 180 countries and regions with profound global influence.

To explore and promote the Yang Jizhou Acupuncture brand, the Qujiang District Government launched the First Congress of Acupuncture-Moxibustion on Health Care & Preservation in 2017.

The congress is co-hosted by Qujiang District Government, the Country Tour in Beautiful Chinachannel of CCTV 7, Quzhou Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission, GASME Shanghai Office, Slimming and Beauty Committee of China Association of Acupuncture, Sundy Corporation, SundyZhizhonghe Industrial Group and Anhui Central Holding Group.
