Training Workshop on the Role of Copyright in Promoting Creativity and Cultural Prosperity for SMEs Held in Hangzhou

Co-hosted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Global Alliance of SMEs(GASME) and Zhejiang Association of Small and Medium Enterprises(ZASME), the training workshop on the role of copyright in promoting creativity and cultural prosperity was held in Hangzhou, China, on July 6, 2011.The mission of this workshop was to equip entrepreneurs and officials with real time information, foresight and inspiration to improve the overall management skills in intellectual properties and innovation in enterprises in Zhejiang.


WIPO brought in renowned experts for this workshop, including: Mr. Christopher Kalanje, chief counselor of the creative industry division of WIPO; Mr. Sungchun Yoon, Senior Program Officer of the Cooperation for Development Bureau for Asia Pacific, WIPO;Dr. Jean Marie Cishahayo, senior advisor of training division of WIPO; Professor Xavier Greffe of Université Paris I - Panthéon-Sorbonne; Mr. Baker Tilly, training advisor of WIPO and Mr. Guanrong Wu, Vice Chairman of China Culture and Creativity Committee.


This workshop was customized to bring the most benefit for attending Chinese SMEs. The topics for discussion were the following: WIPO Creative Industry Plans; The Features of Creative Industry; The Role of Copyright in Gains and Losses of Chinese Enterprises; Business Patterns of Creative Industry; Sustainable Development and Competitiveness Based on Innovation and IPR Protection; Value Added of Creative Products by Effective IPR Management; Creative Assets Recognition and Evaluation by Financial Means; Analysis of Economic Performance on Chinese Creative Enterprises; Development of Creative Industry in China with Case Studies.


After the workshop, WIPO hosted a business cocktail party in JW Marriott Hotel Hangzhou, in which all the attendees and officials of the workshop were invited.

More than 80 local entrepreneurs, officials and scholars participated in this training workshop.
