2005 US-China Business Matchmaking Conference (Hunan)

Co-organized by USCEA, US Department of Commerce (DOC), US Small Business Administration (SBA), US National League of Cities, State-owned Asset Supervision and Administration Commission of Hunan Provincial Government, Hunan Academy of Social Science, Federation of Industry and Commerce Hunan Province, and Changsha Municipal Government, the 2005 US-China Business Matchmaking (Hunan) Conference was held in Changsha, Capital of Hunan Province on Oct 26th 2005.


The conference received congratulation letters from Mr. Craig Allen, Minister-Counselor in Commerce of US Embassy in China, Mr. William Spitler, Director of New York Office of US DOC and Mr. Jin Xu, Deputy Director General of Department of American and Oceanian Affairs Ministry of Commerce of PR China. Due to the 2005 Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade Meeting in Beijing in Early July, they were unable to participate as planned.

In the morning of Jun 26th, Mr. He Tongxin, vice governor of Hunan Province, met with William Hudnut and other 4 US City Mayors, as well as Dr. George Wang, President of USCEA. Mr. He told the US guests that United States and Hunan is a complementary pair in resources and technologies. US companies have a clear edge in techniques and are very competitive. He believed that the cooperation between two sides would bring both a bright future. Dr. Wang told the host that the co-operation between the cities of US and China has a prosperous future.


In the afternoon of Jun 26th, the matchmaking conference was held in Furong Tianhua Hotel. About forty foreign companies and more than 200 Chinese enterprises took part in the conference. Around thirty letters of intention were signed. The total amount was up to US$ 1,2 million.

In the evening, Mr. Tan Zhongchi, Mayor of Changsha City, welcomed the US Business Delegation and hosted a banquet in the honor of US guests. Mr. Tan hoped that Changsha and US Cities could have a comprehensive cooperation in these aspects such as economy development, science and technology, Culture, Education and Tourism. On behalf of the US delegation, Mr. William Hudnut expressed their gratitude for the hospitality of the Host. He told Mr. Tan that he believed, by cooperation, the bias caused by the difference in political system and culture could be cleared up.


On Jun 27th, the US Delegation inspected the investment environment of Changsha County and Xiangyin County. And then they visited some of Hunan's famous enterprises such as Hunan Sany Heavy Industry Co., Ltd, Broad Air Condition Co., Ltd, and Hunan Changkang Group Co., Ltd.

Business cooperation agreements were also signed between 2 pairs of US and Chinese cities:
City of Roanoke, Virginia and Chaling County, Hunan Province
City of Chevy Chase, Maryland and Liuxiang City, Hunan Province
