A strong and growing business sector

The rise in globalisation has resulted in the international trade in services growing during the past two decades from approximately 18 per cent of world trade to 23 per cent.

In most countries, the contribution of services to GDP is well over 50 per cent - in Australia’s case, it is 76 per cent of GDP (Source: Australian Bureau of Statistics).

The professional service sector is an important contributor to the Australian economy both in terms of employment and productivity improvement. It includes businesses such as lawyers, management consultants, architects, town planners, engineering consultants, accountants, recruitment consultants, human resource management consultants, market researchers, PR consultants, events managers and many more.

Australian Marketing Institute
