Ban Ki-moon Sustainable Development Lecture Held in Hangzhou

On November 2nd 2018, Ban Ki-moon Sustainable Development Lecture co-hosted by GASME, World Packaging Industrial Alliance, Global Manufacturing Alliance and World Packaging Center Group was held in Diaoyutai Hotel, Hangzhou, China.

Before the Lecture, Mr. Zhou Jiangyong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee met with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon then attended the the launch ceremony for the Global Investment Attraction of China Qiantang River Phoenix IPO center at the 36th floor of World Packaging Center Headquarters.

Distinguished guests attending the Lecture included Ban Ki-moon, Eighth Secretary General of the United Nations and Chairman of Boao Forum for Asia, Wu Jing, Vice Chairman of CPPCC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, Jin Xiangzuo, Vice Chairman of GASME, President of World Packaging Center Group and Chairman of World Packaging Industrial Alliance, Shen Xin, Director-General of Department of European and Asian Affairs of Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Kim Bong-hyun, Chief of Cabinet of the Office of SG Ban Ki-moon and Former Korean Ambassador to Australia, Wang Zhenghua, Co-Chair of GASME Sustainable Development Committee and President of Spring Airlines, Frank Cao, Secretary-General of GASME and Global Affairs Adviser to Former German President Christian Wulff, John Huang, Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce, Yang Liming, President of China Health and Medical Development Foundation and Jin Zhe, Vice Chairman of World Packaging Industrial Alliance and Executive President of World Packaging Center Group.

At the leture, Mr. Jin Zhe read the two letters of congratulations: one was from Global Chairman Christian Wulff and the other was from Mr. Lin Jianhai, Secretary-General of International Monetary Fund. Both letters delivered high recognition and firm support for China Qiantang River Phoenix IPO Center.

Wu Jing, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, stated in her address that “Zhejiang Province, as one of the provinces with the most active market economy, should resolutely promote sustainable development proposed by President Xi Jinping so as to facilitate the all-round development of the private economy, which is also one of the major aims for holding this Lecture.”

During the brief introduction to SG Ban Ki-moon by SG Frank Cao, he mentioned that “out of the numerous contributions made by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon during his ten-year tenure in the United Nations, there are three major ones: First, he drew up the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Second, he called on world leaders to sign the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Third, he initiated the ‘Every Women Every Child’ initiative. SG Ban Ki-moon is one of the most outstanding UN chiefs.” SG Frank Cao also called on all the entrepreneurs to become active communicators and practitioners of the sustainable development concept and jointly promote the realization of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

SG Ban Ki-moon pointed out in his keynote speech that “on September 3rd, 2016, President Xi hosted a historic ceremony of handing over of instruments of ratification of China and the US to me for the Paris Climate Accord. It was warmly received by the international community and sent a clear message of China to the world that China will exercise a strong leadership in implementing the Paris Climate Accord. On behalf of the United Nations, I highly appreciated the leadership of President Xi Jinping of China and President Obama of the US in meeting the challenges of climate change.” SG Ban Ki-moon pointed out that “President Xi Jinping has emerged as a true climate champion. China’s extraordinary national development experience and success in implementing the UN’s Millennium Development Goals was integral to these global gains.” SG Ban Ki-moon called on “all key stakeholders, including international organizations, civil society, and academia, to facilitate the work of entrepreneurs and innovators in contributing to sustainable development.”

President Jin Xiangzuo pointed out in his speech that “the World Packaging Center Group and GASME, along with other organizations, are setting up China Qiantang River Phoenix IPO Center in Qianjiang New City, aiming to respond to the Phoenix Action Plan of Zhejiang Province, enhance industrial concentration and core competence, and build a listing incubation platform integrating the functions of resources reassignment, planning guidance, professional training, project docking as well as cooperation and matchmaking to create more opportunities for companies to be listed. It will contribute to the development of Qiantang River Finance Bay and the industrial transformation and upgrading, and the establishment of a demonstration base for the incubation of unicorn companies, gazelle companies and headquarters of listed companies.”

Rt. Hon. Michael Bates, Minister of State for International Development, specially recorded a congratulation video clip for the forum. John Huang, Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce, and Yang Liming, President of China Health and Medical Development Foundation also delivered speeches.

The World Packaging Center is the first global industrial center set up in Hangzhou, China with the approval from relevant international organizations and the Chinese government, which serves as the industrial hub that integrates international corporate headquarters, the Internet business, technology and education, intelligent manufacturing, modern logistics, creative culture, as well as financial centers and services. The construction of this center has received strong support from the central government, the provincial and municipal governments as well as related departments. Currently, the World Packaging Center Headquarters located in Qianjiang New City of Hangzhou, which has received a total investment of 5 billion RMB, will come into use at the end of 2018, mainly accommodating international organizations and multinational corporations.
