China’s “One Belt And One Road” strategy is a major focus point in the country’s economic development plans, and has the world’s attention. Building the Silk Road Economic Belt will help create new cooperation opportunities with partner nations, as well as facilitate the international development of Chinese SMEs. China has modified its economic and innovation strategy by moving away from high-speed and toward moderate growth, with continued upgrades to economic structure, while entering into the digital, connected, internet age. It is clear that Chinese SMEs must tackle the difficult task of transforming their businesses and driving innovation through systematic upgrades and internationalization.

President Lee Myung-bak pointed out in his speech that the world economy is facing a variety of crisis and new challenges like the problem of population aging, financial crisis, climate change and the global trade slowdown. President Lee said that Republic of Korea has been through the compression path of economic growth earlier than China. He reviewed Korea’s economic development, and emphasized China can take the New Opportunity to realize Chinese Dream. President Lee had full of confidence in China’s economic development. He also believed that Korea and China will become the closest partner in the future.

In the age of Industry 4.0, what kind of innovative development will happen in China and Germany? Former German President Wulff elaborated two business opportunity: modernization of enterprises and urbanization. Chinese government and German government can cooperate more closely. Plenty of manufacturing enterprises which became main force of innovation are from small towns in Germany. In China, urbanization arouses the development of society and economy in rural areas. Germany and China are competitors. Healthy, positive and fair competition is a good thing. President Wulff hoped that enterprises from China and Germany can cooperate together to achieve win-win situation.

Mr. Jean-Pierre Raffarin, Former Prime Minister of France emphasized the importance of SMEs in international economic development. SME development is a global issue. From a global perspective, international trade will develop continuously. We shall have a lot important things to do on supporting the SMEs growth and their global competition. When big enterprises bring solutions which only apply to themselves, we shall never forget SMEs who create new technology and make new progress. SMEs will have great and brilliant future.

Mr. Lee Soo-sung, Former Prime Minister of Republic of Korea, delivered a keynote speech in cooperation and exchange between Chinese and Korean SMEs. Mr. Lee pointed out that all the enterprises have a fair competition on the platform of globalization. Only SMEs work together can make win-win benefits. Based on the 5000 years’ exchange history, China and Korea have a deep sense of cultural identity which has become the cornerstone of SME cooperation. This year is the 23th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Republic of Korea. There are diverse exchanges in various fields. From economical aspects, China is a dominant trading partner of Korea. Exchange among SMEs increased every year. East Asia builds the world’s largest economic circle. As a new starting point of SME exchange, Internet shall be used as the platform to expand areas of SME cooperation between China and Korea.

Mr. Carlos Magariños, Former UNIDO Director-General, and Global Chairman of GASME pointed that the epochal change we are going through demands urgent and decisive action to confront the many challenges it poses and to grab its many opportunities. Better profit form trade and investment flows, better understand international negotiations on critical issues, like finance or climate, better gauge the opportunity given by new technologies, better evaluate how to increase productivity while protecting the environment and better anticipate major trends on politics and economics will greatly improve the global economic development. The Silk Road Economic Belt initiative are important initiatives to develop closer cooperation with Central Asian countries and with the ASEAN community, as it is the initiative of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for the whole Asian countries.

He is convinced that the future of national societies will rely on how well they understand and profit from this new reality. We are living new times, where local progress needs global cooperation.
